Astro Portables Astro PortablesGeneral InformationMost of this information is for the Astro Saber, but since the XTS3000 and its family are programmed by the same RSS, a lot of the information will be relevant for it too.All these radios use a standard SMA connector for the antenna. The radio end is a male. Be sure that you use a high quality adapter if you are going to convert from the SMA to something else.

To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity.
The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity. If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request.
It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request. To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum. The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars.
The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola). This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur.

Please respect this. Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio. We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet.
It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern. If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. Anyone have this problem with R05.03 where you go and start it and it gives you a error 'The System can't find the file specified' Its weird the version works fine in Windows 7 but wont work on my XP netbook which it use to before i uninstalled and reinstalled it later. I even tried R05.02 and same thing. I need it on the XP netbook and suggestions what she is missing? I am wondering if i need a different version of NetFrame?Oh not only did it give me that error from a icon on the desktop but i also tried starting directly from the folder AstroPort.exe file.
How about doing a search of the forums, there is a link to a mega repo on here that still works, that has what you seeki`ll give you a hint, have a look in the ASTRO 25 Mobile & APX series DEPOT TOOL thread, and have a read through the 17 odd pagesit has also been posted in other threads for the xts3000 as wellFound itI'm programming my XTS3000 with a SmartZone Trunking System (found a way to do it with WAC AMSS as the coverage type) but am receiving static over the channels? Any ideas as to why?Programmed all conventional channels with hidden trunking talkgroup channels on Zone 1 and 16 scanlists as on communications.support.Affiliation is disabled (on PTT, which I have TX INHIBIT on a switch). Have the System Key all setup and configured.System is a Motorola Type II SmartZone and Voice Type: Analog and APCO-25 Common Air InterfaceRR Link:Just to test the radio, I put a conventional 800Mhz channel onto Zone 2 and it will RX with no issues.Any help is much appreciated. Sounds like the system is not set up right. Is the unit actually scanning?
Does it go to a specific TG when it is active? The instructions I used was from Communications.Support. Basically here's how I have it setup:A. Individual Talkgroup Selection Plus Scanning.1. Create the trunking system.2. Create a trunking personality with the 16 talkgroups that you want.3. Create 16 scanlists.4.
Create 16 receive-only conventional personalities, assign a corresponding scanlist to each conventional personality, and set each personality for automatic scan.5. Create a zone (Z1) with 32 channels.(a) In the first 16 channels of Z1, enter the 16 conventional personalities and a frequency that you know is unused.(b) In the second 16 channels (17-32) of Z1, enter the16 talkgroups.6.

Go back to your scanlists and enter 1 talkgroup from 5(b) into each scanlist. Now, when you select the a channel in Z1, you will be selecting a receive-only channel that is mapped to a corresponding talkgroup. This way you can select specific talkgroups to monitor. Because the talkgroups are in channels 17-32, they are 'hidden' from your channel selector.
As long as you do not use your keypad to select a higher channel, you are protected from affiliation.Basically when I go to any channel in the system it just is static whenever someone TRANSMITS on the TG. Sounds like a rebanding issue, however I was under the impression that the 3k's were setup from the factory for rebanding.Search around in CPS and see if there is a checkbox for 'enable rebanding' or something along those lines. What you're describing could be one of two things: either the radio is not setup for rebanding or it is so badly out of alignment that it cannot receive anything at all.Rebanding is enabled. It can receive traffic on normal 800Mhz conventional frequencies. Here's one of my conventional personalities that is setup for the trunking scanlist.
For the radio to scan properly you first have to be sure that the radio is receiving the trunked channels right. Since some are analog and some digital you have th be sure that the radio is set to decode both. Next you have to be sure that the proper TG is being selected. AgainI ask is the radio stopping on the right TG when its active. Right now we dont care if its decoding the audio all we care is that the unit is stopping on the channel where the selected TG is active.None of them are analog. That's how I was taught to set it up. Is there another way to setup SmartZone trunking with non-affiliation??
Took that directly from communications.support. Is there another way to setup SmartZone trunking with non-affiliation??there is as i mentioned above, set it up using the trunking personality.WARNINGif you do not know how to do this properly, YOU WILL GET YOUR RADIO BRICKED BY THE NETWORKit is not actually that hard, assuming you have all the detailsthis is an example for the SA-GRN as to not have it killedyou have to ensure the TX is OUTSIDE the TX of the networkalso as i mentioned above, you will need a system key to set it up this way though. Since this is a 800 meg system there is no settable band plan.If he has the systemkey then I dont know why he isnt just crating the TG personality and placing that in a zone. Anyway to program the unit as he is trying. This is how it should beEG using scan list 1 for TG 99Ddisplayed ch conventional 1 (851.0125) PL l67.0scan channels in list 1 - 866.6875, 866.8375, 867.0125, 867.3125conventional personality for 866.6875 - rx options ASTRO - network options to NAC F7E - ASTROTG options strapped and TG id 99Dscan list 1 - contains only the talk freq associted with the site your monitoring.
